Instead of counting sheep to help get you to sleep, try drinking a cup of lavender tea. Lavender is an ancient herb said to have great benefit to the body and the soul. Lavender has been used in many forms, as tinctures, oils, sachets, salts, rubs, soaps, aromatics and so much more. It is said to help in combating depression, insomnia, restlessness, headaches, even easing wounds and insect bites and some skin rashes. Here are some suggestions for using lavender in your home:
-Combine lavender buds with chamomile flowers and a touch of honey for the best sleepytime tea you ever had. (Make sure the lavender and chamomile flowers come from herbal tea sellers and not potpourri sellers.) A nice place to get lavender tea is Teaspring.com. I just discovered them recently and they have a variety of high quality teas and tea blends for those who love this relaxing and beneficial hot drink. They also sell white tea and imported teas from China. I have broadened my horizons when I started sampling the different teas and I'm glad I did!
-Try a lavender bath! Gather a handful of lavender buds in a square of muslin or organza fabric. Tie with a ribbon and hang over the tub faucet as the water fills your tub. Or you can add a few drops of the essential oil to your bath as well.
-Grow a pot of lavender in your home or keep a bowl of lavender buds. It is said that lavender is a soporific (induces or tends to induce sleep) so the fragrance can help you to relax. Not only will your room smell divine and prepare your room for a relaxing sleep but it is said to keep houseflies away!
-Make a lavender dream pillow or sachet: A pillow filled with these fragrant little buds is a great way to drift off to sleep.
Until Next Time...Sweet Dreams!
